Tick bites can be a cause of significant concern due to the range of diseases these tiny creatures can transmit. However, with prompt and proper treatment, the risk can be substantially minimized.  Below I described the initial steps that I typically recommend to my patients. But it’s important to remember that both homeopathy and naturopathy offer many other solutions, which must be chosen in an individualised manner, which can help address the consequences of tick bites.

What to Do After a Tick Bite

Once you’ve identified a tick bite, it’s important to remove the tick safely and promptly. Using a tick remover, carefully extract the tick from the skin to avoid leaving any parts of it embedded.

After removing the tick, disinfect the bite area. Colloidal silver or tea tree essential oil are excellent choices for this purpose. These natural remedies are known for their potent antibacterial properties and can help prevent infection.

For added protection, you may want to apply crushed fresh garlic under an occlusive bandaid. Garlic is renowned for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Change this bandaid twice a day to ensure the area stays clean and the garlic remains fresh.

Homeopathic Treatment After a Tick Bite

Homeopathy offers a gentle yet effective approach to treating tick bites. Peter Alex, the author of « The Homeopathic Treatment of Lyme Disease” (Emryss, 2005) recommends Ledum 30c for 3 days starting on the date of the bite and Aurum arsenicosum 200c on the 6th and 12th day.

How to Deter Ticks

Prevention is the best way to avoid tick bites altogether. One natural deterrent to consider is cistus (Cistus incanus) tea or capsules. You may know it under the name of Rockrose if you are a fan of Bach flower remedies. This plant has been found to repel ticks, making it a valuable addition to your preventative measures.

For more information on the benefits of Cistus incanus, refer to this interesting study.
